Director and Professor, Centre for Development Economics and Sustainability (CDES), Monash University

Asad Islam is the Director of the Centre for Development Economics and Sustainability (CDES) and a Professor at the Department of Economics at the Faculty of Business and Economics at Monash University. He is a Development Economist. His recent research focuses on social networks, schooling and health, microfinance, petty corruption, and risk-sharing mechanisms of households. He is particularly interested in issues that can generate public policy interest. He is passionate about making changes in the lives of the poor people in developing countries through his research, collaboration and external engagement with NGOs, government, policymakers and development practitioners around the world.


Asad Islam est directeur du Centre pour l'économie du développement et la durabilité (Center for Development Economics and Sustainability - CDES) et professeur au département d'économie de la faculté des affaires et d'économie de l'université Monash. Il est économiste du développement. Ses recherches récentes portent sur les réseaux sociaux, la scolarisation et la santé, la microfinance, la petite corruption et les mécanismes de partage des risques des ménages. Il s'intéresse particulièrement aux questions pouvant générer un intérêt pour les politiques publiques. Il se passionne pour changer la vie des pauvres dans les pays en développement grâce à ses recherches, sa collaboration et son engagement externe avec les ONG, le gouvernement, les décideurs et les praticiens du développement du monde entier.
