Leticia Durand holds a PhD in Anthropology from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), and a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Biology from the Faculty of Sciences of the same university. She is currently a level I researcher in the National System of Researchers (SNI). She has developed research work in Los Tuxltas (Veracruz), in the Sierra de Huautla (Morelos) and in the Selva Lacandona (Chiapas), analyzing local visions of environmentalism and conservation strategies, mainly in biosphere reserves, and the relationship between the various actors involved. More recently, she has been interested in topics revolving around the social construction of nature, environmental discourses and the political ecology of conservation. She has taught several courses in the Bachelor’s Degree in Biology at the Faculty of Sciences (UNAM), in the Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology at the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences (UNAM), in the Graduate Program in Biological Sciences (UNAM) and in the Graduate Program in Anthropology (UNAM). She is a member of the Network of Social Studies on the Environment (RESMA).
