María I. Echavarría is a Colombian microbiologist with an MPH in Global Health from the University of Washington (Seattle), with an emphasis in Leadership, Policy and Management, and a graduate certificate in Business Administration from Rosario University in Bogotá, Colombia. She worked for more than 10 years as a technical advisor in health programs with public and private hospitals, public health institutions, and multinational companies in Colombia. During the last 12 years, she has worked in the academic sector, been part of public health and community-based research projects and currently she is coordinating the regional training program to strengthen capacity in implementation research at the institutional, national and regional level. In addition, she is the leader of the Latinoamerica Hub for Social Innovation in Health (SIHI LAC), aiming to promote social innovation research in the LAC region.
