Valentina Hartarska is an Alumni Professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology, College of Agriculture with a joint appointment in the Department of Finance, College of Business, at Auburn University. She received PhD from the Ohio State University, and holds degrees from the Central European University (Hungary and University of Essex, UK), Vienna Economic University, (Austria) and the University of National and World Economy (Bulgaria). Her expertise is in financial markets and institutions, rural finance, efficiency and productivity, NGO governance, applied impact analysis and banking. She has published in the Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, Journal of Banking and Finance, World Development, the American Journal of Agricultural Economics, Food Policy, and others. She speaks several languages and has been a Fulbright Scholar at the Free University of Brussels, Belgium.
